LymphScanner

A handheld device that measures local tissue water and displays it as Percentage Water Content (PWC). It gives physical and occupational therapists an objective reading to record at each visit.

Objective Tissue Water Measurement

LymphScanner gives clinicians a number for local tissue water, displayed as Percentage Water Content (PWC). Its effective measurement depth is about 2.5 mm, so readings focus on the skin and upper subcutaneous tissue. Measurement is non-gel, uses a force-monitored probe, and needs no disposables.

Key Benefits

  • Non-gel measurement with a force-monitored probe
  • No limit on repeated measurements from the same skin site
  • Visual PWC readouts to record at each visit
  • Fully portable with a rechargeable battery
  • Wireless connection to a PC for spot measurements
  • Disinfects with alcohol

LymphScanner measures tissue dielectric constant at the skin and displays the result as Percentage Water Content (PWC). Delfin states that LymphScanner “is intended to complement clinical examination and other appropriate assessment methods,” not replace them.

Delfin designed LymphScanner for “healthcare professionals working with lymphedema, including lymphedema therapists, physical and occupational therapists, oncology rehabilitation professionals, physicians and clinical researchers.” It is intended to be operated by healthcare professionals in professional health care facilities.

In the US, LymphScanner is FDA cleared, 510(k) K220557, as an aid in forming a clinical judgment of unilateral arm lymphedema in adult women, and it is not intended to diagnose or predict arm lymphedema. Measurements on other sites are for research use only.
